karsog

Karsog is a small town and nagar panchyat situated in the lap of Himalayas, near Shimla, at a height of 1,404 metres. It is in the Karsog Mandal subdivision of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh in India. It lies in the Pir Panjal range of Himalayas bordering Shimla District.
Karsog is ancient town and described in folks of epic Mahabharata. Karsog is combination of two words "Kar" and "sog" which mean "daily mourning". During the time of pandavas a rakshasha used to eat a man daily from families living in the town. During their exile pandavas visited the town and came to know about the demon. Bhim ended the life of demon by presenting himself a food instead of villagers and thus relieving town of its daily mourning. Pandavs build many temples in this area.
